Why does Berkshire Mutual Aid exist? Many reasons, but this is one of them. There is limited online SNAP in the state of Massachusetts, which means no curbside pickup or supermarket delivery for the most vulnerable during the Covid19 pandemic.
- Thousands of dollars in government SNAP funds sit unused while people in the Berkshires go hungry
- Disabled and at risk people are being forced to go to the grocery store and be exposed to coronavirus or go without.
- Some medical conditions make it impossible to safely wear a mask to shop.
- Many people with disabilities have special diets or cannot cook, so the food pantry system isn't enough for them to stay safe and healthy.
This is a crisis.
The best way to help immediately - Please donate to the #ShireStrong campaign which is helping our community members with disabilities and other at risk and vulnerable people in the Berkshires: https://givebutter.com/f5HeVk
(Or text "413" to 203-858-1233 to make a contribution using your phone. )
The best way to help for the long haul - You can call your local representatives this week and ask them to prioritize Meals on Wheels under 65 and online SNAP in Massachussetts.
Thank you for being there during hard times.
Together we are #ShireStrong .
