We, 𝐵𝑒𝑟𝑘𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑀𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝐴𝑖𝑑, are an emerging coalition of community organizers, grassroots networks, local non-profit leadership, local business owners, political and health care system contacts, funders and volunteers working together to stage a 𝒔𝒂𝒇𝒆 and coordinated citizen led response, with the most vulnerable being our 𝑡𝑜𝑝 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮. We are the original Berkshire Mutual Aid community and coalition forged by the South County Disability Rights Working Group in coalition with two other local Mutual Aid Facebook groups founded the week of March 16, 2020 and a grassroots coalition of representatives from vulnerable and disenfranchised populations across the Berkshires.
Our coalition includes community members , activists and organizations representing several vulnerable and marginalized populations including: the disabilities community, homeless or at risk community members, opiod addicts, LGBTQA+, Latino and POC as well as elders. We have connections in the local small business and non-profit communities. We connect those in need of support with those who have time, energy , skills or resources to share. We also organize community events and actions to meet larger needs, such as mask making and distribution, donations, food distribution, transportation, and a new effort for creating mutual aid in a network of community gardens. Berkshire Mutual Aid navigators are on call to help people connect to information and resources they may need, provide emotional support or assist with complicated and confusing paperwork such as unemployment forms.
Berkshire Mutual Aid is a New England Grassroots Fund, Inc. SEED Covid-19 Rapid Response Grant recipient, awarded to community groups who are reponding to real time needs during this crisis.
If you need to contact the 𝐵𝑒𝑟𝑘𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑀𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝐴𝑖𝑑 community organizers directly use the Contact information in the Contact Us page.
We are working to streamline the coordination of all the volunteer efforts, Grassroots, community organizers, non profits, and local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is for ease of efficiency, spreading the wealth, ensuring we can all be in this for the long haul, physically and mentally, providing a 𝑠𝑎𝑓𝑒 mutual aid effort during this pandemic.
We welcome all community members and local efforts to join the network so we can expand our reach , share information and resources, and meet needs as efficiently as possible .
We believe in the heart and soul of the Berkshire Community. During Covid-19 and beyond, we will get through this together.
We are #ShireStrong
